Published Sheets of the Orbis Romanus Atlas

The map sheets listed on this page are graphical representations of the current state of the database content. Map sheets are defined by the range of geographical latitudes and longitudes covered. In addition each sheet carries a name derived from a major Roman town covered by the sheet.The sheets published so far cover areas of 3 deg in longitude and 2 deg in latitude such that 4 sheets of the Orbis Romanus correspond to one sheet of the Tabula Imperii Romani.

Previews

Maps may be previewed as 72dpi JPEG graphics. These previews will only give a rough impression of the area and objects covered by the map and are NOT intended for printout or magnification.

High quality print versions

High quality print versions of the map are available either as Adobe PDF files or as zipped Adobe PostScript (ZPS) files. You need a PDF viewer (e.g. AdobeAcrobat) or PostScript viewer (e.g. GhostScript) to view or print the maps. Note that AdobeRead will view the landscape maps in portrait only.

1. A4/letter size at a scale 1:1250000 with physical landscape showing places of major importance.

2 .A3 size at a scale 1:800000 with physical landscape showing all places and functions.

3 .A3 size at a scale 1:800000 without physical landscape showing all places and functions.

PRINTING

Note that print versions may use maximal paper size, though the A4 versions should also print on Letter size paper. Your printer driver must support this setting. If you have problems printing the files you may try creating a printer file (if supported by your printer driver). This file can then be copied to the printer by GhostScript, DOS copy etc. Note that you should switch off memory usage when creating the printer file and your memory is smaller than the file size (20-60 MB).

FILE NAMES

The file naming format is  eOOOnAASa3c.ext where

 eOOOnAA is longitude and latitude of the upper left corner of the map (e.g. e006n52 for East 6 North 52)

 S is the latitudinal size in degrees (S=2: 2 degrees,S=1 1deg20min)

 a3/a4 paper size

 c if map contains geophysical landscape. 

 ext is ps,pdf,zip or jpg.
